The scripture reading for today is Psalm 19:14 NIV.
“May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
As a middle school teacher, I hear a lot of words that are not pleasing, kind or positive. Sometimes things are said for shock value, but often I think words are spoken without even a thought of how these words will be received, or the deep impact these words may have on someone. Most of us can recall the exact words that were said to us from someone we loved or respected. The hurt can run deep. I bet most of us are guilty of having said words in anger or haste that we wish we could erase. I believe that these words from psalms ask us to step back and reflect on our words and on what we hold dear in our hearts so that we may be pleasing to God. The next time you feel the need to fling hurtful words and hold anger, rather than offer kindness and forgiveness, say a prayer for the Holy Spirit to guide your heart and words. I know the Holy Spirit will guide you to show love, kindness and honor to others, and to God. And this will surely be pleasing to Him.
Dear Holy Spirit, Please guide me to make my words and thoughts acceptable unto God, and to be a beacon of Your light to others. Amen
