The reading for today is 2 Peter 3:1-7.
1This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you, in them I am trying to arouse your sincere intention by reminding you 2 that you should remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles. 3 First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our ancestors died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation! 5 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water, through which the world of that time was deluged with water and perished. 7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have reserved for fire, being kept until the day judgment and destruction for the godless.
God is faithful throughout the ages. He keeps his promises and forgives his people. It is the lack patience and sinfulness of his people that is the problem. In the time of Noah, he destroyed the earth by a flood and the next time of his coming, he will destroy the earth by fire. Pretty scary stuff. God allows time for us to be forgiven if we will listen to his Word. He wants us to turn to him and be forgiven so we can be with him. There will be scoffers or those who do not believe. They have existed from the beginning of time. It is up to us to be faithful in our belief and trust in God.
Let us pray-Dear Heavenly Father, continue to be patient with us as we doubt your promise to us. You are the ultimate in patience and love for us. May we be guided by you in all we do.
Prayer Concern - Remember those who have doubts that there is a God. Be patient with their questions and be a good model with an understanding heart of a good Christian.
