The scripture for today is Luke 18:15-17, NIV.
The Little Children and Jesus
15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
These two verses caused me to reflect on heaven and the picture I have in my mind on eternity. Eternity is a difficult concept and trying to put it into an adult perspective only limits its magnificence. Children don’t try and put boundaries on the beauty they encounter they just marvel in the awesomeness. In these verses, Jesus summons us back to our childhood perspective of wonder, amazement, and marveling at new and beautiful experiences. He tells us in the last sentence above that if we anticipate how marvelous heaven will be then we will enter a magnificent relationship with God and Jesus for the rest of time. That realization should bring us comfort no matter what experiences we face in our uncertain world today. We just need to focus on God and Jesus.
Let us pray: Dear Father help us to open our lives to the beauty of the love you have for us. Help us to understand your love and convey that love to all people we meet. Amen
