The scripture reading for today is John 1: 29-42
29The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’
These words come from John the Baptist. So, knowing the story of Elizabeth (John’s mother) and Mary (Jesus’ mother) this can be confusing. “He ranks before me because he was before me.” After all, John was a few months older than Jesus...here on this earth. But Jesus, the Lamb of God, our Savior was there at THE beginning. When Heaven and Earth were created. True God, perfection born as a human child to live and grow among us. Only this miraculous combination could yield the result we sinners desperately needed. Jesus, the perfect Lamb, slain for our sins, the once and forever sacrifice that redeemed us back into God’s good graces. Thank you, Lord!
Dear Jesus, Forgive me for the times I’ve let my pride get in the way and ignored your guidance. You are the beginning and the end. You know best. Help us do as John did, gladly and willingly step aside and let you work through me. Amen.
