The scripture for today is Matthew 16 verse 19 (KJV).
"And I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
Interesting verse. We get the Keys to the kingdom. But wait! There seems to be a catch. What is it that is bound for us and what is loose for us? Where is the promise? Where is the love? Where is the victory in Jesus? Are we not forgiven? Are we not cleansed?
So, let us look closer. Jesus said this right after Peter's great confession (Thou are the Christ). Are these words for his disciples? And, are we not one of them as well? There is a reference to John's gospel. Chapter twenty, verse twenty-three. "Whose so ever sins you remit, they are remitted unto them, and whose so ever sins ye retain, they are retained." Jesus told this to his disciples after his Resurrection. Think about the timeline of each verse. One is previous and one after his Passion.
Sin separates us from God. God loves us over and over again. He gives his Son to us. He sends the Holy Spirit to guide us. There is the Victory and love of God. There is God's promise to all. The importance of this verse goes along with our forgiveness to others just as we are forgiven. Recite the Lord's Prayer out loud. It is a Gospel within itself.
