January 16, 2020 Daily Devotion

The reading for today is Psalm 40:1-3

I waited patiently for the LORD;

He inclined to me and heard my cry.

He drew me up from the pit of destruction,

out of the miry bog,

and set my feet upon a rock,

making my steps secure.

He put a new song in my mouth,

a song of praise to our God.

Many will see and fear,

and put their trust in the LORD.

I think the start of this Psalm is so important. I read a devotion by Rob Carrothers in November where he talked about the practice of spending time with God while waiting in silence. It’s a practice I have added to my daily morning time with the Lord.

I think the first line gives us a clue to how the rest of the things in this Psalm will be worked out. We wait patiently in the presence of the Lord and He sets our feet upon a firm foundation and puts a song on our lips.

Lord, we wait upon You . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Amen.
