The scripture for today is Acts 13: 23-25.
“Of this man’s seed hath God according to His promise raised unto Israel a Savior, Jesus: When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think you that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to lose.”
In these passages, John the Baptist is heralded as a special man in world history because he preached the coming baptism of repentance. In essence He was saying that God knew of our fallen nature and inability to follow the laws and prophets. John reminds us that Jesus is the coming Savior (who will pay for our sins) and cancel out the need for works of the flesh. Much like the Judges in Israel’s history, who could reference need for a perfect and sinless lamb, John more specifically points to Jesus as a solution. We are blessed beyond measure, currently, to have the full story, and to see his life, death, and resurrection for us. May this holiday season bring daily recollections to each of us of His love and salvation. Solo gratia.
