The reading is from Psalm 139:1-4
O LORD, you have searched me and known me.
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from far away.
3 You search out my path and my lying down,
and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
O LORD, you know it completely.
The heading for this psalm is 'The Inescapable God'. Part of me finds that aspect of God completely scary. God knows EVERYTHING I am knowing and doing. Every moment. Every day. I mean I know that God is omniscient and omnipresent, but I, like many, tend to think we can hide things from God because there are things that we would just rather not have God be part of in our lives.
But on the other hand, there is something amazing about the fact that despite me and the things I do, God still wants to so fully be a part of me and my life. I relate it to my friend David. David was that friend who knows what I am thinking without me having to spell it out. There have been times where just a look was sufficient to relay a thought. There is a deep, bond unlike anything else. And this is what it is like with God... just a thousand-fold more. I want to love and be loved by a God who wants to be closer to me than any friend or spouse.
Dear God, As much as I run from you, you run after me, often meeting where I think I am going without you. Thank you for that. Amen
