The reading for today is Psalm 29:1-2.
“1Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 2Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.”
The word “ascribe” is one not used often in our modern language. I found that it comes from Middle English based on the Latin, meaning “to write”. Other sources define ascribe as “giving credit to” or “attributing to”. Even those fall short of the praise and wonder and awe we have at the strength and glory of God.
As I write this, we are coming to grips with the loss of our granddaughter Natalie Rose who was stillborn. It seems impossible to not dwell on the “why” and “how” and want to find a cause. In our sorrow, God has sent many loved ones, family and friends and total strangers. Through this darling little girl, God has connected people from around the world to share our grief, give support to her family and connect us in love. Pastor Roy told me to think of God as giving and receiving, not taking. God gave us Natalie Rose and has received her back to His strong, gentle arms.
How can we not be in awe and wonder at the glory and strength of our God?
Let us pray - Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory for ever and ever. Amen
