The scripture for today is Isaiah 29:13-15.

13The LORD says: "These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught. 14Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish." 15Woe to those who go to great depths to hide their plans from the LORD, who do their work in darkness and think, "Who sees us? Who will know?"

Sometimes…we go through the motions. We talk the talk. We honor traditions and man-made rules, that can separate us from Christ.

Sometimes with good intentions, sometimes not so much. We allow resentment, anger and fear to drive decision making and we think nobody will notice.

Sometimes, we make plans and God laughs.

Justice is getting what is deserved. Mercy is not getting what is deserved.

Grace is getting what we don’t deserve and despite our failings, we have a loving and forgiving God that forgets our sins and failings.

We are astounded daily (if you look for it) of wonder, of the great things that are done through the spirit and acts of disciples through God.

Dear God, please give us the sight to see your wonders and faith to follow you and not follow the rules.
