The reading for today is Psalm 147:1-5.

Praise the Lord. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him! The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.

How great is our God? It is easy to get distracted by all the negativity and uncertainly that exists in our world today, but it Is essential that we take a moment and recognize all that God has given us.

I was fortunate enough to spend the holiday break in Mexico with my family. It was some much-needed time to relax, spend time with my family, and take a few moments in awe of God’s masterpiece. I went scuba diving where I could explore the spectacular world that exists under the sea. It is easy to look out onto the ocean and feel small and insignificant, but I find great comfort knowing that not only has God created this beautiful masterpiece and named all the stars in the sky; he also created me, and he calls me by name!

It may be easier to take the time to appreciate all God has done laying by the ocean on vacation but let us all take a moment today to praise God for the many blessings in our lives. This could be by singing one of your favorite worship songs, by sharing your blessings with someone in need, or simply by taking the time to thank Him for something special in your life.

As a prayer today I’d like to leave you with the words from one of my favorite worship songs “How Great is our God” by Chris Tomlin:

How great is our God.

Sing with me, how great is our God.

And all will see, how great,

How great is our God.

Name above all names

Worthy of our praise

My heart will sing, how great is our God.
