The scripture reading for today is Psalm 37:3.
“Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.”
This Psalm could easily be 9 different devotions. I would really encourage all of you to take the time and go read Psalm 37. It includes so many brief reminders that I believe are a great way to refocus our hearts and minds in this New Year.
This has been a particularly stressful holiday season for me. I have had close friends lose their jobs, I have dealt with personal and professional struggles, and I have allowed my own frustrations to cause doubt in my own heart. Throughout this struggle, I have let my doubts and frustrations consume me and other people have suffered as a result.
I remember seeing a post from Pastor Lanny a few days ago that said “Let the Lord fight your battles. He hasn’t lost one yet.” I read it over and over again and the words have really echoed in my heart. Over the last few days I have received several smalls pieces of good news. My friends are finding new jobs, some prayers have been answered, and suddenly, I find myself giving thanks to the Lord for these blessings. I know that despite my shortcomings, the Lord has answered my prayers.
We all may have the best intentions, but I have seen how things can suffer when we try to make it on our own. This New Year, I hope we can all put our trust in the Lord and let him fight our battles for us. He hasn’t lost one yet! Spend less time worrying over the things we can’t control and spend more time doing good in this world.
Lord, thank you for being there to lift us up, even when we waiver. Help us to put our trust in you and let you guide us through the day. Amen
