The scripture reading for today is Luke 6:37.
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. "
What if we read this verse every day before turning on the television, before we checked social media, before leaning in to listen when someone says "Did you hear about.....?"
If we all just changed our thinking in this one little area, imagine how much better our world would be!
Lord Jesus, thank you for showing mercy to me, a sinner. Thank you for your wise commands. Help me, daily, remember this so that I, in turn, can forgive others who offend, harm or anger me. During your life, you hung out with all manner of sinners and outcasts and you didn't judge, you loved them all. Remind me of this when my thoughts turn critical and judgmental towards those who look, think or act differently than I do.
Help me follow your example and love unconditionally. Pour your love into the hearts of all those who feel they don't belong and lead them to our church or another where they can feel part of a caring community. Amen.
