The reading for today comes from Psalm 2.
1 Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?
10 Therefore, you kings, be wise, be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling.
We impeached a President this week. (I say “We” not as a partisan rant, but as a reminder that those in Congress are our chosen representatives.) I’m struggling with many questions as I watch these proceedings. This Psalm seemed to ground me and remind me that all the political maneuvering between nations and within our own nation means squat. The Lord God Almighty is the True King and His Will is always done. So, the question is, do we try to achieve our own schemes, maybe make a little progress here and there, but ultimately spin our wheels? Or, do we align our purpose with the King of Kings and His perfect plan for us? Let’s pray about it!
Oh Lord, I pray for the President, our Congress and all elected leaders. Show them your mercy and might. Guide them and give them courage to do what is right and just for your kingdom. I pray for the citizens of this country. Heal us and unite us, as One Nation Under You. Teach us to respect each other’s differences so we may live in peace and brotherhood until Your Kingdom comes. Amen.
