The scripture for today is Jeremiah 22:13
"Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbor's services without wages, and giveth not for his work."
As I'm writing this, we are in the middle of the government shutdown. I'm not taking sides, but it seems to me there is plenty opportunity to look at this verse and see the same thing happening as in Jeremiah. The President and Congress are still getting their paychecks, but the workers are trying to figure out how they are going to manage their finances. Isn't that selfish?
I read a lot of books and some of my favorites are about the Amish. If someone gets sick, they pitch in and pay for their care. When someone needs a new home, they pitch in and build it. When someone needs food, they share. But most of all they pray for others.
Do I look around me to see if someone needs help? I do when I spend time in prayer and medication.
Dear God, Keep me ever watchful for how I can be there for people in need. In Jesus name, Amen
