Today’s Reading is 2 Timothy 4:1-5
I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom:
Proclaim the word; be ready in season and out of season; convict, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and teaching.
For the time will come when they will not tolerate the healthy teaching; but according to their own lusts they will heap up to themselves teachers, having itching ears,
And they will turn away their ear from the truth and will be turned aside to myths.
I’m participating in a book study Competing Spectacles: Treasuring Christ in the Media Age by Tony Reinke. We’ve been discussing all the things that tempt us to be continually distracted and we are learning about how our culture is changing. Technology is a wonderful tool for use in sharing the Gospel, fulfilling our ministry, and building up the Body of Christ but we must make sure it is a tool we are using and not a tool that is being used on us.
I’ve decided this year to be more mindful of my use of technology and my exposure to media outlets. I want to cultivate a healthy, spiritual mindset that will make me crave healthy teaching. I don’t want my attraction to the latest new device, internet meme or hot news topic to distract me from my calling or begin to nurture in me a taste for the unhealthy or itching ears for worldly spectacles.
Lord, help us to be single in our vision for You and You alone. Amen.
