The scripture for today is Luke 6:23 KJV.
"Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets."
"And they lived happily ever after." What a lovely ending. Remember though, it's a fairy tale.
There's that word "behold" again. Pay attention. Jesus tells us who are blessed, and who are not. No gray areas, just black and white. You either live according to the teachings of Jesus, and leap with joy because you know you will have your reward in heaven, or --- you can pursue the "riches" of the world and feel fulfilled now, but risk eternity with nothing but woe. Jesus is speaking to his disciples and encouraging them to endure the trials Jesus knows they will face. He encourages us also to face our trials, with the knowledge that He sees, cares and loves us, and prepares a place for us in heaven.
There are but two ways to live: hungering and living with Jesus as our Lord and Savior or hungering for gratification in this world. The choice is ours.
Our father, who art in heaven, keep us hungry and thirsty for the lives Christ meant us to live. Keep us mindful of the temptations in this world which distract us from the path to eternity in the presence of your son, Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.
