The scripture for today is Job 19:23-27.
“Oh, that my words were recorded,
that they were written on a scroll,
24 that they were inscribed with an iron tool on lead,
or engraved in rock forever!
25 I know that my redeemer lives,
and that in the end he will stand on the earth.
26 And after my skin has been destroyed,
Yet in my flesh I will see God;
27 I myself will see him
with my own eyes — I, and not another.
How my heart yearns within me!
I was apprehensive as I looked up these verses. Job. Oh no, it’s going to be something about his suffering. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
My heart soared, to read his declaration in verse 24: I KNOW that my redeemer LIVES!
Amen Brother Job, Amen!
Then I got curious. I looked up verses 1-22. So, today’s reading comes at the end of a very long list of grievances about the ridicule, abandonment, and insults from family and so-called friends. In the midst of all this, Job had hope! Why? Because our Redeemer Lives!
So, the message to us is this...no matter how bad it gets, no matter how uncertain or troubling the times we live in become...we have hope. Our Jesus, Our Lord, Our Redeemer--HE LIVES! And one day, we will all stand next to Him, bathed in the light of his Glory. And nothing. Not one...single...thing matters but that.
Lord Jesus, our hearts yearn for you. Grant us comfort, courage and patience as we wait with hope for your kingdom to come. Amen.
