The scripture reading for today is Deuteronomy 30 verse 6. KJV.
"And the Lord thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thine soul, that thou mayest live."
I am writing this the Sunday after Christmas. The celebrations still continue. Jesus is not in the past tense but the present tense. This entire devotion was for the first verse of this chapter to the first half of the ninth verse. However, this gem of a verse stood out.
Jesus used this verse when he described the two greatest commandments. We are to love our God with all our heart and soul. And love our fellow mankind as we love ourselves. Yet here we see how God works. It is God who changes us. We do not change ourselves to follow God.
God will circumcise our heart. He opens us up to the change. He creates us. We are born into sin. Jesus washes us clean. God also leads our offspring to love and honor him. Granted, we may never see this transformation in our lifetime but God does. He is eternal.
Lord, mold us into your service. Keep your love within us and give us grace.
