The scripture for today is 1John 2:10.
"Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble"
Well, today is a day of celebrating love - celebrating those you love and giving thanks for those who have loved you. When we think about those who love us, it is easy to forget about the love that God has for us. We are called as Christians to love God and to love one another - just as God has loved us.
Yes, it can be a particularly hard thing to do - I'll be the first to admit. There are some people in our lives that can be difficult to love, but I have to ask myself, am I given an option? I am commanded by Christ to love my neighbor as myself. We proclaim God's promise to love us - the love that Christ showed on the cross - to one another.
Cory Asbury, a Christian song writer poetically puts God's love for us as such:
"Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine"
Our promise from God is that we are always in the palm of God's hand and that there is nothing that we can do that will ever separate us from this love.
Is there a better gift on this day of Love?
"Love will hold us together
Make us a shelter weather the storm
And I'll be my brother's (and sister's) keeper
So, the whole world will know that we're not alone"
