Today’s Reading is Psalm 35:1-3
Contend, O LORD, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me! Take hold of shield and buckler and rise for my help! Draw the spear and javelin against my pursuers! Say to my soul, “I am your salvation!”
Some fights are not ours.
Several commentaries suggest that this Psalm was written by David referencing the time he spent fleeing King Saul. I heard a speaker once say that he was frustrated by the amount of time David spent fleeing King Saul. Initially, he felt it was a huge waste of time but then he realized God used that time in David’s life to teach him something Saul never seemed to understand. . . How to rely upon God.
David would ultimately be the better king because he was a man who relied upon God.
Father God, help us to rely upon You and not upon our own strength. May we trust You enough to know when the fight is ours and when it is Yours and then stay out of Your way while You handle it. Amen.
