The scripture today is about John the Baptist Preparing the Way, Luke 3:5
5” Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. 6 And all people will see God’s salvation.’”
This verse in Luke is actually foretold in Isaiah. In Luke it is attributed to the prophet Zechariah. He tells the story that John the Baptist will prepare the way for Jesus by telling the people the good news that the coming of Christ will mean for all people. At this time in history the Jews were oppressed by the Romans and the Jewish leadership were not actually leading the people. There was little good news for the common Jew.
John changed that by clearing up the misconceptions about how God was sending his son to “fill in”, “straighten” and “smooth” the way to God. By sending his son God opened and clarified what had been a cloudy communication channel. While Christ was here, we could feel, touch and communicate directly. As he left for heaven, he continued the direct communication through the Holy Spirit. This verse is really a significant verse about God’s love for us. Let us rejoice and be glad he came to save and clarify his love.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father help us to feel your love this day and forever more.
