The reading for today is Isaiah 40:11.
“He will feed his flock like a shepherd, he will gather the lambs in his arms, and carry them in his bosom, and gently lead the mother sheep.”
What a comforting passage to know that our Lord will watch over us and take care of us. He will lead us safely and care gently for us.
Today is December 7th. How different and how similar the world is from this day 78 years ago. How shocked and scared the people of the United States must have been to hear about the tragic news of the bombing Pearl Harbor in Hawaii by Japan on December 7, 1941. This was the news that our parents and grandparents were hearing on the radio. They were probably wondering how such a dreadful thing could have happened. Where was God? Why was this happening? Hitler was taking over country after country in Europe and now the United States territory was attacked. Where was the care and comfort of our Lord?
God is always with us in good times and bad. It is through faith and the grace of the Lord that we receive care and compassion. We. need to hold fast to our beliefs all the time. The blessed assurance of God is always with us if we only ask and take a leap of faith. Our God is an awesome God and we need to follow.
Let us pray: Dear God We thank you for your care and comfort in good times and in difficult ones. Let us follow you and receive your gentle care and leadership. Amen.
