The reading for today is Revelation 12: 13, 14
“When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the wilderness, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time, out of the serpent’s reach.”
I am no scholar. In a passage, deep in symbolism, what stands out for me is this--no matter how dire the situation is, God provides us a way out. Makes me think of one of my aunt's old sayings, "When God closes a door, he opens a window." Or, in this case, "God will take care of us, even if it means growing you a set of wings." The question is--will we know what to do with them?
There are many programs at our church and in the community that offer help for whatever your "dragon" might be: Reach out to someone today.
Lord, you know our darkest places: our hurts, struggles, addictions and secret shames. Now, I ask you, give me the courage to seek help. Guide me to the right person or group. Remind me that through your mercy, I am forgiven. Bring me safely through this struggle, that I might know your peace. And Lord, if someone comes to me for help, I ask you for compassion, wisdom and understanding to be a help to my brothers and sisters. Amen.
