The scripture for today is Matthew 2:13, NIV.

The Escape to Egypt

13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”

The birth of our Savior caused great upheaval in the area around Jerusalem and Bethlehem as the word spread to the Roman leadership that something was happening in the Jewish population. Herod was notified of the birth when the MAGI visited him looking for Jesus. Herod asked and expected that the MAGI would notify him where Jesus was located. He told them he would come to worship Christ, but he really wanted to stop the Savior’s life and preserve the Roman domination.

Humans are silly. Our God is an Awesome God who knows all, sees all and his plan will not be undone by man. We couldn’t thwart God then and we can’t stop him today. His plan will always be done.

God created us in his image. He created Christ to look like us, talk like us and to save us. As we move to the New Year let us be glad in the realization that God loves us and wants us to be confident in the knowledge that he does love us and wants us to be with him in eternity.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father help us to feel your presence in our lives. Help us to pass your love on to others as we are inspired to emulate your love in the new year. Amen.
