The scripture for today is Matthew 24: 34 – 35.

34 “Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”

Yesterday was Christmas and we joyfully celebrated the birth of Jesus. Today's Scripture verses jarringly thrusts us through Jesus entire life to just before He is to die. The disciples are inquiring about what Jesus' return will look like and to be honest it is not a pretty picture. False prophets. Persecution. Famines. Destruction. It almost seems too much to bear.

Yet, Jesus gives us hope. Yes, all these things are going to occur, and it will be difficult. In our minds, the thought of both heaven and earth passing away would seem like the end of everything. But, and this is a big but, Jesus tells us 'my words will not pass away'. All that He has said will hold true. Jesus' promise of forgiveness and love and salvation are all true and carry on no matter what happens; even the destruction of all we know.

This is the Good News. Jesus is the Truth and His Word will carry on eternally. Amen

Dear God, We thank you for your Son, born so that we may be wrapped in Your Truth and Love for all times. Amen
