The scripture for today is John 1:3 KJV.
"All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made."
If you read this verse without reading the preceding two verses, you might think, "Yes, I know. Everything that exists or ever existed was made by God." Well, it's sort of a yes and no. The first two verses read, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God. The same was in the beginning with God."
Christ, not yet manifest, was with God before creation. He was divine and was the Word. Either by him or through him all things were made -- everything! He is the way God creates, reveals his will, and speaks to mankind --through the Word.
"And the Word became flesh," as Jesus the Christ.
Then my head spins. Didn't God speak to those in the Old Testament? He wasn't sending Jesus to speak for him -- or were they both speaking in accord? Since they are one, I suppose that's possible. I can't even begin to comprehend the enormity of the relationship between the Father and Son, so I accept it as a mystery. I remain in awe of the miraculous creations on earth and in our heavens. I am grateful for them, and grateful God sent us Jesus in human form, to love us, to teach us, and to die on the cross for us so our sins could be forgiven.
Ever-present God, You are much too enormous for mere mortal minds to comprehend. Please let our faith carry us over the places we don't understand. Carry us in your heart as we ponder you, and all of your creations. We pray this in the name of your son, Jesus Christ, our living and loving Lord. Amen.
