The scripture for today is Luke 2:11.
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”
At last! It's Christmas Eve! All the preparation, from decorating to rehearsals, leading up to this moment! We come together to light the candles, hear the story, sing the traditional songs and celebrate the arrival of our Savior. We come in our red and green sweaters. We smile at strangers. We hug and say, "Merry Christmas!" For one hour, we are a family, joined in the peace and love of that Holy night. Traditions might draw us, but truth be told, it is so much more. This is fulfillment of a long, awaited promise. All our planning and preparing mirrors the Old Testament anticipation of a Savior. So too should our excitement, mirror that multitude of heavenly host! "Glory to God in the Highest!"
Tonight, after the reading of the Good News and we all rise to sing "Joy to the World" Just take it all in. The lights, the music, the smiling faces and really let down your guard to feel that joy! The joy of our Salvation! The joy of knowing, really knowing that God loved us so much, he sent his Son, knowing that his journey to walk among us would end in a horrible death but that death would redeem all of us, so all of us could once again be forgiven, made righteous in His sight and join him. Glory to God in the Highest! Joy to the World! Amen!
Jesus Lord, I thank you for the desire planted in my heart to know you. Draw me near to you on this Holy eve, draw me near to my brothers and sisters as we come to the foot of the manager to worship and rejoice. Amen.
