The reading for today is Matthew 1:20 NIV
20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
Angels, God’s messengers, appear to man. They proclaim God’s message, but they also bring reassurance. Joseph surely found himself in a difficult spot with his betrothal to a pregnant Mary. Surely the presence of angels, even in his dreams, would be a disconcerting experience. But Joseph took the reassurance and message to his heart and did as directed. God’s plan of salvation for humanity came to fruition through the work of the Holy Spirit, the angels, and the faithfulness of Mary and Joseph. From the lowly birth in a stable to His mighty reign in heaven, we have a God who loves and care for His creation. What a blessed birth!
Dear God, Thank you for the gift of Jesus, our redeemer and savior. Help us to hold Him dear in our hearts beyond the Advent season. Amen
