The scripture reading today is Isaiah 11:2, KJV.
"And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord;"
This chapter of the prophet Isaiah foretells of Christ's kingdom. Now, take a look closely at this verse. It breaks down many things that are very true about Jesus and shows us the personality of God. There are many attributes of God, but this verse narrows them down.
First, we have various gifts given to Jesus. Wisdom and understanding, counsel and might, knowledge, and the fear of the Lord. Look at the order the are recorded in this verse. With the spirit of the Lord upon Jesus, he has to have wisdom and understanding to be able to counsel. His might comes from the Lord. Some will say this is the gift of preforming miracles. Think about it. He cannot do miracles on his own but only by God's might and will. Through this, he is given the gift on knowledge. Out of this comes the fear of the Lord.
Proverbs tells us God gives wisdom. I did a Bible study on this book and it took us two years to get through it. Not that we were slow learners. It is that involved. Solomon knew this when he asked the Lord for the gift of wisdom. Solomon was human, just like us. Wisdom leads to great understanding and knowledge. Read Proverbs. God leads us by his spirit in everything we do in life.
God's personality is shown as a giving and loving God who commands respect and trust. This is part of fear. He also gives these gifts to us. They are attainable to us from God and God only. He shows us and leads us in the direction of his will. Be of faith and be in prayer. Make an impact with others in God's name!
Dear Lord, help me to listen today as you direct me!
