The scripture reading today is Psalm 42:1 (NIV)
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.”
The Psalmist here is not just saying he wants to hear from the Lord. It is a serious prayer for help. Psalm 42:2 says, “My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.” This is a prayer issued from a position of desperation or fear as evidenced by the thirsting soul.
When I pray or give thanks I’m usually in a comfortable location and basically a peace of mind situation. But the Lord is available to us any-time/all-the-time. In difficult situations, even deadly and high-risk situations access to the Lord is not limited. Your desperate prayer asking for help can help to clear your mind can give you relief as you feel the Lord’s presence reassuring you that He is with you and help is available. We can’t know exactly what help will be available or exactly when but we can know He hears us and will respond to our needs.
Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to please forgive my sins and careless behavior that can hurt others. I am so grateful that You are forever accessible at any time and under any circumstances to hear our prayers. Please help me to be understanding and responsive to You when I can be a part of Your plan to help others. Amen.
