The scripture for today is Luke 12:21(NIV).

21 “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

“He who has the most toys, still dies” is a bumper sticker that I read that sums up the human existence that is focused on acquisition and consumption. In America, we even have an idiom that reflects this idea -“Keeping up with the Jones”. God does not measure us by our stuff, but by our hearts.

Ask yourself, “What riches do I possess?” If you focused on the monetary aspect, you probably missed out on the riches of God’s blessings of family, talents, health, and God’s constant love, grace and forgiveness. No price could be put on these things. If you are feeling “poor or limited in any way”, I challenge you to keep a blessing journal. Each morning write at least one thing that you are thankful for and in the evening, read your daily morning addition before adding an evening entry. Soon you might have a turn of heart, and a mindset ready to be generous with those around you because you see the rich blessings in your life!

Dear God, Fill my heart with mercy, love and thanksgiving so that I do not look to acquire the things of this world. Amen
