The scripture for today is Jeremiah 15:10-14, NIV. 10 Alas, my mother, that you gave me birth, a man with whom the whole land strives and contends! I have neither lent nor borrowed, yet everyone curses me. 11 The Lord said, “Surely I will deliver you for a good purpose; surely, I will make your enemies plead with you in times of disaster and times of distress. 12 “Can a man break iron—iron from the north—or bronze? 13 “Your wealth and your treasures I will give as plunder, without charge, because of all your sins throughout your country. 14 I will enslave you to your enemies in a land you do not know, for my anger will kindle a fire that will burn against you.”
Jeremiah was a prophet who condemns the people for their false worship and social injustice. He repeatedly asked them to repent. Jeremiah listened to God for guidance and in these verses, he gives the people the revelation from God.
Jeremiah has faithfully pronounced the message God has told him to. But no one, of course, is happy to hear it. In the previous chapter, we saw Jeremiah three times intercede for his people who were under the condemnation of God for their constant rebellion against him. God told Jeremiah that, no, he would not be changing his mind concerning the coming punishment.
God was asking for a response from these sinners. Thank goodness that we live in the New Covenant of God’s grace and forgiveness. Unfortunately, many people in today’s world still reject the Word of God, but as Christians, we are called to spread the Word of God, much like Jeremiah was back in his day.
Dear Lord, I thank you for Your son, Jesus Christ, and the fact that He died on the cross to save us all from our sins. Help me to hear the prophets in my world who try to guide me in the right direction.
