The scripture for today is taken from Isaiah 28: 14-22 “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic. I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line…”

The dictionary defines a plumb line as “a cord with a nonmagnetic weight attached to one end. When the cord is held in such a way that the weight can dangle freely, an exact vertical can be determined. Painters and carpenters use a plumb line to keep their work straight.” In the same way, we are to use His divine guidance and His word to shape our lives. Through filtering His message into our decisionmaking process, we make plans with wisdom. Also, we line up our relationships with family, friends and community in a harmonious way.

In the passage in Isaiah the people are being told to line up with the measure God has set (ultimately the cornerstone of Christ) and to turn from their false beliefs which are harmful. When we are willing to put Him before all else, our lives get straightened and we can avoid the damage of sin.

Harold Hendricks, minister, says it this way, “When I try...I fail. When I trust...He succeeds.” Amen!
