The reading for today is Romans 11:33-36 33 O the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! 34 “For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” 35 “Or who has given a gift to him, to receive a gift in return?” 36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen.
This passage from Romans reads more like a psalm. Paul is concluding a section of his letter with a doxology, a hymn of praise to God. It can be a joyful comfort and a relief to know that God’s wisdom and knowledge are totally beyond our own. I’m a planner and organizer and I like to be prepared in life, but in these uncertain times, it is a good reminder that God’s richness and gifts for me go way beyond my limited human perception. When times are tough and things aren’t going my way, these verses tell me that God is in control of all things. Instead of frustration I can turn to God in praise.
Glorious God, whatever knowledge and gifts we have are nothing compared to you. Thank you for being the great I Am and loving each one of us.
