The scripture for today is Luke 13:13 KJV.
"And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God."
Jesus was asked by many for healing, and he performed many miracles. Surely, it is no surprise he was able to lay hands upon this unnamed woman and heal her infirmity of 18 years. To me, the big surprise seems to be she did not ASK Jesus to heal her. He saw her in the crowd and called her to him, and healed her, and she immediately expressed her gratitude by glorifying God.
It made me think about the many times I have been given gifts that I hadn't asked for. I'm much better now, in my "golden" years, (which I sometimes refer to as my rusty years rather than golden) in giving thanks for the daily gifts I receive. Near my son's garden I recently came upon two young bucks, with their new antlers still in velvet. Glorious to be able to be able to see them and be within 20 feet of them before they bolted away! Thank you, Gracious Father, for filling my heart with such joy. We really do need to recognize and acknowledge the simple gifts we are given on a daily basis. Things which make us think, "How cool is that?" Things that warm our hearts and make us raise our eyes and our thanks to heaven.
Just the fact that we are able to move our heads and look in an upward direction to give thanks is a blessing. Many, like the woman in this story. have not been able to do that. Those of us who can are truly blessed. I'd love to hear your stories of blessed gifts you've received without asking.
You are awesome, Glorious Father, in your love and caring and nurturing. You give us so much, even when we don't ask. Help us to remember to recognize your gifts, and glorify you with our thanks. In the name of our Living Lord, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
