The scripture today is Proverbs 24:3 (NIV version)

“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established.”

How many of us have stood at the beginning of our adult lives and contemplated how we were going to buy a house, keep a house and establish ourselves as “grown adults” with all the joys and challenges that presents? I know when Ken and I were contemplating buying our first house for our growing family, there was some anxiety involved. Could we afford the house we wanted? Would this be a good house to raise our children in, with good schools and a nurturing neighborhood? We finally used what knowledge we possessed at the time (which looking back, was not a lot), and then trusted the rest to God. Now, 27 years later I look back at the love, laughter and growing that has happened in this house. I look at my grown children who have fulfilling lives, filled with jobs that give to others, friends and loved ones, and babies (Oh, those grandbabies!). When I look out at my children and grandchildren on a Sunday morning as they sit in the congregation, worshipping with our Living Lord family, I know that our house was well established. With age brings wisdom, but this wisdom did not come from Ken and me. This wisdom, understanding and grace came from God, through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He has led us constantly through our lives and has built wisdom and understanding along the way. All things are possible with God leading the way. When I talk to young parents about raising children, I always say, “It’s not brain surgery. Love them unconditionally, be consistent with your partner in how you will raise them and bring them up in the church with God leading the way.” He is all the wisdom and understanding you need to build and establish your house!

Dear Lord, thank you for leading us every day of our lives and showing us wisdom and understanding. Please continue to lead us throughout our lives, as we come nearer and nearer to eternal life with you. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
