The scripture for today is Psalm 36:5-11.
5 Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
6 Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
You, LORD, preserve both people and animals.
7 How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!
People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
8 They feast on the abundance of your house;
you give them drink from your river of delights.
9 For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.
10 Continue your love to those who know you,
your righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.
This Psalm is trying to capture the height and breadth of God’s love. What an awesome task! Is there a way to explain the scope of God’s love for us?
The image of God’s wings protecting us was featured in a story Pastor Lanny shared in a recent sermon. In his story, a mother hen gave her life protecting her chicks under her wings in the fierce fire. Do we picture God watching over us as we go through our days on earth? God is a constant presence, not just in church or those times we call on Him. In our bible study of Philippians this week, we talked about being “the only bible” someone might ever encounter in their life. That is a very humbling thought!
God is always with us and we are His presence in this world.
Dear Lord, Let us always be in awe of Your great love for us. Help us share the love you freely give us with all of the people we meet in our path through this world.
Prayer Concern - for the people who cannot feel God’s love in their lives, that we can be an example to them.
