The scripture today is Psalm 122:1 (NIV version)
“I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’”
As I researched this bible verse and why David wrote it, I found out that it was the third of three “songs of ascent” written for the holy feasts at Jerusalem. It demonstrated the joy that David felt when he was invited to join the pious as they entered the holy city.
How often have we rejoiced as we were invited to celebrate our Lord with other Christians? I remember when Ken and I were first looking for a church, when we were first married and moved to St. Charles County. We visited a few churches before Living Lord. We were happy to enter those houses of worship, but they did not feel like a home to us. Then one day we decided to go to Living Lord. We sat down and as the service started, Pastor Roy received the information that a church member had just passed away. I will never forget his voice as he choked up in prayer and the love of those around us as they mourned with and prayed for the family. At that moment, we knew we had found our church home and 32 years later the disciples of Living Lord continue to be our church family. I cannot count the number of times that I have rejoiced when I have been invited to various church functions, participation in ministry, and nearest and dearest to my heart, asked to participate in the music ministry of our church.
How many of us can say that we have made others feel joyful and have invited them into the house of the Lord? I know I could greatly improve in this area. I pray that we will all break out of our comfort zones, invite those we meet to join us, and just maybe they will rejoice as they go into the house of the Lord as well!
Dear God, We rejoice as we enter Your house to spend time together worshipping you. Let us share this joy with those who do not yet know You. Amen
