The reading for today is Acts 4: 1-4, KJV.
And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Saducees, came upon them. being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they lain hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide. Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed, and the number of men was about five thousand."
Simply amazing. The actions and words of the apostles created such a fuss that the upper hierarchy of the Jewish people had to do something with them. Like any governing body, the threw them in jail!
Yet here we find the people who listened to them about the risen Christ believed. And they did in volumes. In each chapter of the Acts, we find the church growing rapidly. Think about this. How powerful are the words being said? How open were the people to listen? And how much did he overturn the previous faith and religion?
Jesus did not come to condemn the world, but to save it. I had an uncle who loved the book of Acts. He led a bible study group for many years just on this book. Another person I knew was endeared to this book of the Bible. He was in a new church and looking for ways to grow the church. He went right to this book as well. Amazing how words have such power!
Pray for growth in the church. Pray for growth in faith. Pray for those prosecuted for their faith!
