The reading for today is Psalm 31:12
I have been forgotten like one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel.
I heard a speaker once talk about David and the time he spent fleeing from Saul. The speaker said he used to think it all seemed so pointless. Samuel had anointed David as king. Why must he run and hide and waste so much time before taking the throne. The answer, he felt, was that during that time David learned to rely fully upon the Lord.
I attended a conference called “Broken Things” when I was in high school. The keynote speaker was a man in his 20’s suffering from a debilitating disease that had robbed him of many physical abilities. He had learned to fully rely upon the Lord and that his fulfillment came from serving God as a special speaker. He had written the most beautiful song that I couldn’t sing without crying. It was about feeling broken but trusting the Lord to use that brokenness for His greater purpose.
Do you feel forgotten today? God sees you. Do you feel broken? If so, God knows. He has something planned for you that may involve being broken along the way but will end in wholeness. Trust Him.
Glorious Father, all that You will is right. Jesus, we are grateful for Your own willingness to be broken on our behalf. Spirit of Life, helps us as we grow in Your truth. Our God, we trust You with our brokenness that we know You will turn to perfection. Amen.
