The reading for today is Psalm 133, NLT.
1.How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! 2 For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron’s head, that ran down his beard and onto the border of his robe. 3 Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon that falls on the mountains of Zion. And there the Lord has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting.
Unity, oneness, in harmony, or one in spirit. There are so many definitions and applications of this word. My earliest memories are of being on a dance team. Learning the steps together to present a beautiful performance. And many of us lit unity candles in our marriage ceremonies. In church services we unite as one body under Christ, worshipping together in His house.
I especially love David’s illustration in this Psalm. I am a water person. I find great peace floating in the lake, or simply watching the waves wash ashore. The oil anointing of Aaron’s head all the way down his robe, and the dew from Mount Hermon to refresh Mt. Zion are symbolic, from top to bottom, just as are the peace and blessings from Jesus Christ; all from above.
Heavenly Father fill us with Your spirit to work together with brotherly love to serve You. Help us to view our adversaries through Your eyes for the good of all mankind bringing peace to our existence. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
