April 10, 2020 Daily Devotion

The scripture for today is John 18:1-19, 40, NIV

" They shouted back, ' no not Him, Give us Barabbas!' Now Barabbas had taken part in a rebellion."

This whole scripture should be very familiar to us. It is the arrest of Jesus in the Garden and Peter's first denial. It then goes to the crowd asking for the release of Barabbas. Although I love the Easter season of the church, it also makes me feel sad and guilty. I caused Jesus to die on the Cross and it was not pleasant. YET, He loved us so much, He was willing to open His arms, be nailed to the cross, and die. Then comes the miraculous resurrection. We are saved from an eternity in Hell and given an eternity with God and Jesus. I can't wait.

It makes me think of the song " I Can Only Imagine.". What a day that will be. Halleluiah.

Then the scene above takes place and the crowd shouts for the release of Barabbas. It shows how fickle we are. Just a few days ago, this same crowd is yelling praises to Jesus as He rides into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey colt. His feet touch the ground. Yet aren't we like this crowd?? Aren't we like Peter, and deny Christ or that we are a Christian??

We sing the praises of God in church where we can be seen, then we go out into the world and are afraid to speak in love, about sin we might see in ourselves and others. We are cowards and ask for Barabbas.

I am getting to the point in life where each day is a gift. Mercy Me, the singers, have another song I dearly love. It is called "Almost Home". It is speaking to all of us who believe in Christ. Don't waste time worrying about life and troubles, hang in there. We are almost home because of Jesus and His death on the cross for US.

AMEN
